The Missing Layer. And Why It Changes Everything.
Every framework in this body of work operates in the thinking and doing dimension. The Momentum Formula, Mum 180, the Stuck Model. They are built on strong core principles and they work. But all of them assume one thing is already in place. For a specific population, it is not. This guide walks you through the layer that sits underneath all of it. Step by step. By the end you will understand why your capability is not the problem and what actually is.
1
Have You Ever Felt Like This?
Before We Begin

You wake up switched on. You have a plan. Things move.

Then later, a different version of you shows up. Not gone. Not lazy. Just somewhere else. The gap between what you intended and what is happening starts to feel like a character flaw.

It is not. And this guide will show you why.

Reflect : Your Experience
Can you recognise the two versions of yourself? What does the gap between them look like in your daily life?
2
This Is Not A Motivation Problem.
The First Thing To Get Clear

The gap between your two versions is not a motivation problem. Not a discipline problem. Not a mindset problem.

And it is not a character flaw.

Your framework is still there. Your capability is still there. Your evidence of achievement is still there. Something is preventing you from accessing any of it. That something has a name. And understanding it changes the entire diagnostic.

Capability vs. Capacity
The Core DistinctionDiagram 01

Everything in the existing framework operates in the thinking and doing dimension. These are cognitive and behavioural frameworks and they are powerful. But they all assume the platform underneath them is stable enough to run them.

This new layer operates in the feeling and being dimension. It is not about what you think or what you do. It is about the state you are in when you try to think and do. And state is not chosen. It is inherited, wired, and managed or mismanaged.

"Capability is what you can do. Capacity is what your system can hold."
Mum 180Core DistinctionAnonymous © TSSH

Your capability has not gone anywhere. It is fully intact. What changes across the day is your capacity. When capacity is high, capability loads and runs. When capacity is low, capability cannot load regardless of how strong it is.

State 02 : Loads Cleanly
Capability
Capacity
  • Framework loads and runs cleanly
  • Evidence of achievement accessible
  • Self trust available and active
  • Self regulation operates normally
Result : Good Behaviours
State 01 : Cannot Load
Capability
Capacity
  • Framework exists but cannot load
  • Evidence of achievement inaccessible
  • Threat architecture dominates
  • Relief behaviours activate
Result : Poor Behaviours

A dysregulated nervous system cannot retrieve evidence of achievement. The architecture that stores evidence and the architecture that processes threat are in direct competition. Threat wins by design. This is why the framework becomes inaccessible. Not absent. Not broken. Inaccessible.

Reflect : Your Two States
What does State 01 feel like for you specifically? What are the early signs that your capacity is running low?

Version 1 and Version 2
Diagram 02The Arc

We tend to think of our state as relatively stable across a day. But capacity moves. It depletes through decisions, emotional friction, environmental demands, and accumulated stress. By the time the day progresses the platform you are working from is significantly different from the one you started with.

This is what your two versions actually are. Not two different people. The same person operating from two very different platform conditions across the same day.

Version 1  ·  High Capacity State
Full Access
This is you operating above the regulatory threshold. The platform is stable and the full architecture is available. This is when the framework runs cleanly and evidence of achievement is accessible.
  • Clear and accessible
  • Capable and in control
  • Self directed
  • Finds solutions
  • Evidence loads
  • Framework runs
Threshold
Version 2  ·  Low Capacity State
No Access
This is you operating below or near the regulatory threshold. The same capability exists but the platform cannot support it. The framework is inaccessible and threat architecture dominates.
  • Unclear and overloaded
  • Reactive
  • No direction
  • Finds relief
  • Evidence blocked
  • Framework cannot load

For a regulated system, capacity moves like a sine wave. Rhythmic, predictable, sustainable oscillation that stays above the threshold. For a dysregulated system it moves like a sawtooth. Sharp accumulation, sudden collapse, repeat.

Sawtooth : Unregulated
Sharp accumulation then sudden collapse then repeat. Crosses the threshold regularly. No smooth recovery. Version 2 lives here.
threshold
Sine : Regulated
Rhythmic, predictable, sustainable. Stays above threshold. Version 1 at its most consistent lives here.
threshold

The gap between Version 1 and Version 2 is not character. It is not motivation. It is not weakness. It is regulation.

Reflect : Your Pattern
Does your day follow more of a sawtooth or a sine pattern? Where does your capacity typically start to drop and what tends to speed it up?

The Forecasting Error
The Critical Misread

Here is where most of the damage happens. Version 1 wakes up, feels capable, builds a full capacity plan and assigns it across the entire day. A critical assumption is made: that the capacity available right now will hold. It will not. It never does. But the plan is built as though it will.

The Forecasting Error : How It Unfolds
Version 1 Plans

Full capacity plan built from a full capacity state. High load tasks assigned across the whole day. Forecasts that current capacity will remain constant.

Version 2 Arrives

Capacity depleted. Plan exceeds what is available. Cannot execute. Does not register as a capacity problem. Registers as failure. Moral judgement follows. Shame accelerates depletion. Relief behaviours activate.

Version 2 does not see a capacity problem. It sees a personal failing. That misread triggers a shame spiral which depletes capacity further, which makes the plan even less executable, which makes relief behaviours more compelling.

"Version 1 was always forecasting competency. It needs to start forecasting capacity."

Reflect : Your Forecasting Error
Have you been building full capacity plans and handing them to a low capacity system to execute? What has that misread cost you?
6
The Two Phase Planning Model
Diagram 03The Threshold

The correction is not motivation. It is not discipline. It is a different planning model. One that accounts for the arc of the day, not just the starting point. One where Version 1 does not hold jurisdiction over the entire day.

Every person has a regulatory threshold. The point below which the system can no longer access its full architecture. The practical model is built around two phases separated by a single critical checkpoint.

ABOVE THRESHOLD Framework loads · Evidence accessible · Self trust available BELOW THRESHOLD Inaccessible · Threat wins · Relief behaviours activate THRESHOLD PHASE 01 Version 1 Jurisdiction CHECK PHASE 02 Version 2 Jurisdiction
Phase 01  ·  Version 1 Jurisdiction
High Capacity Window
  • Deep thinking and creation
  • Difficult conversations
  • High stakes decisions
  • Framework runs cleanly here
  • Full access to evidence base
Between Phases
Capacity Check
"Where am I actually right now?"
Phase 02  ·  Version 2 Jurisdiction
Reduced Capacity Window
  • Routine and completion tasks
  • Physical activity
  • Passive recovery
  • Low cognitive load work
  • Protect the system

The Capacity Check is not a review of what got done. It is a genuine read of where the system actually is before Phase 02 begins. One honest question. Where am I actually right now? Not where Version 1 expected to be. Where you actually are.

"Version 2 is no longer failing to meet a plan. It is operating within a plan designed for its actual state."

This single shift removes the misread. Which removes the moral judgement. Which stops shame from accelerating the depletion. Which makes relief behaviours less compelling. The plan is not wrong. Its jurisdiction is.

The Complete Circuit
Putting It All Together

With the Mum 180 added the complete sequence of the framework reads as follows. Break capacity and the whole chain breaks at the foundation. Everything above it becomes inaccessible. Not lost, not broken. Inaccessible. Restore capacity and the chain runs again.

Capacity Foundation
Access Enables
Action Generates
Evidence Rebuilds
Self Trust Creates
Value Builds
Momentum Output

The Mum 180 is not an addition to this framework. It is the pre condition that determines whether any of it can run. Your existing frameworks have always addressed capability. This layer addresses capacity. And capacity is the pre condition for capability to express itself.

Core Distinctions : The Language
01  ·  Existing
Confidence is conditional. Self trust is portable.
02  ·  Capacity
Capability is what you can do. Capacity is what your system can hold.
03  ·  Access Reframe
It is not a failure of competency. It is a failure of access.
04  ·  Judgement Problem
Structural failures are subject to moral judgement.
05  ·  Forecasting Error
Stop forecasting competency. Start forecasting capacity.
06  ·  Existing
You are not broken. Your context is broken.

You Built A Person.
From Nothing.
The framework is not separate from you. It came from you. All of it. The proof of concept for this entire layer is the person who built the framework. That is not irony. That is credibility.
"You're building a person... it will take time. Be patient."
